I could not be more obsessed with Dressing for Pleasure, a new-ish book about the legendary underground fetish magazine Atomage (pronounced atom age). The first issue was published in 1965 and was initially a catalog of designer John Sutcliffe's rubber and leather creations. Shortly thereafter readers began submitting photos of themselves wearing his clothes, articles were introduced, and it evolved into a full-fledged magazine. It later split into two separate titles, Atomage Rubberist and Atomage Bondage, after the rubber fetishists started taking issue with the sadomasochistic imagery. Drama! I love Atomage because although the subject matter is racy, it's hardly pornographic. And the craftsmanship of the clothes is incredible, where would Gianni Versace be without Sutcliffe & Co.? You can buy the Atomage book here and also be sure to check out this amazingly comprehensive fansite.
