R.I.P. Corinne Day

I was so sad to hear that Corinne Day passed away, I've always been a big fan of her work. Below is my all-time favorite editorial of hers; it's from an old issue of Dutch that I dug up recently. Kate Moss and Rosemary Ferguson were her favorite models to photograph;  I don't think they ever looked cooler.

Cher vs. Lover

The new Lover collection and Cher have been at the forefront of my mind for the past few days. I just got tickets to see Cher in Las Vegas, which should be interesting to say the least. Even though Cher and Lover seem like they would occupy opposite ends of the fashion spectrum, they do have a few things in common. The new Lover pieces would look so perfect on Cher circa 1965; it's too bad that I can't "turn back time" and make that a reality. In any event, come Spring 2011 I hope to be channeling Cher (and Soledad Miranda) in Lover's insanely perfect black lace minidress (below). I would also like to add that I interviewed Lover's Nic Briand and Susien Chong for the new issue of Chelsea which finally comes out next week! They were really lovely and I even got to catch a glimpse of their adorable cat through the webcam. Thanks again Nic & Susien!

How many Grauduate-inspired fashion editorials does the world need?

Things that I am looking forward to:

1. Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People by Amy Sedaris a.k.a. what I am buying everyone for Christmas. Pre-order here. 

2. Todd Haynes' Mildred Pierce

Todd Haynes is adapting Mildred Pierce (the book not the film) for an HBO miniseries starring Kate Winslet is as Mildred Pierce! Evan Rachel Wood was cast as her bitchy daughter Veda, which seems appropriate.

3. The Rodarte book. I don't know anything about it aside from the fact that it contains a lot of Catherine Opie photos of Jenny Shimizu, Kate Moennig, Cecilia Dean, and Frankie Rayder in Rodarte, which sounds amazing to say the least! Pre-order here.

4. Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan

I'm not a huge Aronofsky fan but holy shit this looks amazing! I can't wait to get a better look at the Rodarte costumes. And how creepy is the poster?

5. My cross country road trip with Megan and our friend Sara! In early September we will drive from northern Caifornia to New York City. I bought an amazing sparkly champagne-colored mid-century couch in California and it has to get back to New York somehow. We will be passing through Las Vegas, Altanta, Dollywood (!!!) in Tennessee, and numerous thrift shops along the way. So excited!

Shilohmania

Oh google image, how I love thee! The Phillip Seymour Hoffman one is so good, although they should have used a photo of his character from Boogie Nights instead. And Jared Leto's outfit would definitely benefit from the addition of an easter basket.

Gainsbourg

The trailer for the new Serge Gainsbourg movie is so insanely cheesy and over the top (even for a biopic) but it's still worth watching for the Birkin/ Bardot doppelgangers. Something tells me that this is going to be the Factory Girl of 2010.
