Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony

Chloe Sevigny is one of the few celebrities that reduces me to fanatical teenage-style obsession. Yes, I am embarrassed by this. Whenever I see her on the street I feel kind of creepy, like she knows that I had 50 photos of her tacked to my bedroom wall when I was 16. But anyway, I am very excited to see her upcoming collection for Opening Ceremony, which will be previewed to editors on September 10th. I will also take this opportunity to post the video for The Lemonheads' Big Gay Heart, featuring a very 90's pink-haired Chloe. Enjoy.

Visionaire 53: Sound

I am fully aware that life isn’t fair but the fact that I cannot afford to buy every issue of Visionaire is the worst hellish torture. Their 53rd issue, Sound, is packaged in an acrylic dome case and contains five 12-inch vinyl picture-disc records, 2 CDs, and a MINI Clubman “Vinyl Killer” record player (a battery operated toy car with speakers and a needle- it drives on the records!!!) Sound features 100 minutes of audio content by 100 different contributors including Yoko Ono, Courtney Love, Helmut Lang, Chan Marshall, David Byrne, Doug Aitken, Alexander McQueen, Robert Wilson, Antony & the Johnsons, Adam Horowitz, Kim Gordon & Thurston Moore, Andrew WK, etc, etc. Enjoy the annoyingly small preview image below.

Cheap Chic: Thank God For Newport News

Newport News is full of unexpected goodies like stirrup leggings, crocheted bucket bags, and best of all, AMAZING SHOES!!! Yes, you might be skeptical because Newport News is often associated with crappy catalog frumpy mom stuff. The dresses might need some work but the shoes are pretty right on.

Book Club: Five Girls by Sam Haskins

I recently ventured into Kiki de Montparnasse, an upscale lingere shop in Soho (think Agent Provocateur but ten times better) and was pleased to discover that the store was decorated with Sam Haskins’ photographs. For those unfamiliar with his work, Haskins was one of the most influential photographers of the sixties and seventies, primarily known for his dreamy, playful images of women in various states of undress. His seminal book Cowboy Kate, which Kathryn Flett of The Observer called "...a revelation,” was reissued by Rizzoli last year. All of his other books are currently out-of-print including the lovely Five Girls, which I recently picked up on eBay.

UPDATE: Freakish Coincidence Alert! My father read this post and called to inform me that he also owns a copy of Five Girls, which was given to him as a birthday present back in the sixties. Bizarre.

Add a Little Providence To Your Life

Based in Providence, Rhode Island, Dirt Shirts are one-of-a-kind painted or silkscreened t-shirts designed by local artists. According to the company's Myspace Page, they're not horribly prompt with shipping, but these shirts are sweet! Totally worth the wait!

Cat Party + Pancakemeow = BFFs??

The lady (or dude) behind pancakemeow.com is really into the finer things in life - she's in a band, she's a totally awesome illustrator, and she makes the cutest charms known to man! Oh yeah, the cat reference in her domain name isn't too shabby either. But back to the charms! Not only are these babies adorable and great looking, they are scented as well! Scented!

These are some of my favorites. Really though, Linzer cookie rings!? How much cuter can you get! You can also customize your cupcake charms if there's a certain cake/frosting combo you're really into. I'm so tempted to get one but will refrain out of fear of eating it when I'm really in a bind.

Textile Geek!

I am always ridiculously overcome with joy when I see a designer use a technique I've learned about in school. In the Fall 2007 Balenciaga collection there were some beautiful dresses (pictured below) which perfectly utilized a dyeing technique called Ikat (pronounced eee-kaht.) Ikat is very complex and delicate and involves dyeing or painting the yarn before it is woven with.

Here is a crazy old Indonesian textile that uses Ikat!

Cedric Rivrain is The Greatest

There are only so many contemporary fashion illustrators who I consider to be true geniuses. Actually, there are only three: Julie Verhoeven, Charles Anastase, and now Cedric Rivrain, whose work has recently appeared in Tokion, Numero and A Magazine.

Permanent Food

I always look forward to a new issue of Permanent Food. I mean, come on, it’s a magazine about magazines, what more could I want? Permanent Food is the creation of genius artist Maurizio Cattelan, who most recently blew my mind with The Wrong Store. Permanent Food has no offices, no staff, no website, and makes no profits. There are no articles, no ads, only pages ripped from magazines, which are then sequenced to great effect by Cattelan. Plus, it comes in it’s very own canvas tote bag, which is sure to set you apart in a sea of I’m not a plastic (barf) bags.

What the hell is that?

I first read about Australian jewelry designer Elke Kramer a little over a year ago in my beloved Russh magazine. Her designs were scary good, and as Vice magazine puts it, “…completely unlike anything that you have seen before.” Her famous fans include Karen O, Fafi, and Chiaki Kuriyama (crazy schoolgirl from Kill Bill Volume 1). Plus she gives her designs awesome inappropriate names like Candyass Shitmagnet and Wacko Chowderhead. Below is a pendant necklace from her current collection The Anti-Curse of Greyface.
